Thumb-Turn Interior Lock on DCE Cold Aisle Doors

Built-In Safety with DCE Thumb-Turn Interior Door Locks

Safety inside a cold aisle is just as important as airflow control. Data centres often rely on third-party engineers, contractors, and visiting support teams — which introduces risk if door access procedures are not followed correctly.

The Challenge

In some instances, third-party engineers have been known to unlock only one end of a cold aisle, accidentally leaving the opposite door locked. In the event of an incident — such as a power failure, lighting outage, or medical emergency — this could result in an engineer becoming trapped inside the cold aisle.

The DCE Solution

All DCE UPACS single and double doors are supplied as standard with a thumb-turn interior lock. This simple yet vital safety feature allows anyone inside the cold aisle to unlock the door from the inside, regardless of the external lock status.

Why this matters

  • Eliminates the risk of personnel being trapped
  • Does not rely on training, signage, or procedure compliance
  • Enhances safety for third-party and visiting engineers
  • Meets best-practice expectations for enclosed environments

Safety by design

At DCE, safety is not an optional extra. Features such as internal thumb-turn unlocks are built into every UPACS door because protecting people is just as important as protecting infrastructure.
